Internship experience

June 2021 - August 2021

I had the opportunity to work at the African American Museum of Iowa as their 2021 Summer Marketing Intern. My internship experience was focused on starting the first phases of a special project as a part of the museum's educational programming initiative. I did extensive research and preparation work for a new museum-hosted podcast that will be sharing untold stories of black Iowans who have made an impact on their community in both the past and present. "Foreground" is the working title that I have created for the podcast, as it focuses on bringing the stories and people out of the background and into the spotlight.

During my internship I...

• Researched best practices in podcast production 

• Brainstormed future episode topics

• Utilized museum, government, university, and library archives to conduct historical research

• Researched and ranked podcast distribution platforms and host sites

• Wrote sample scripts for three 5-10 minute long starter episodes

• Collaborated with my team to determine the future direction of the podcast and stories

• Created multiple guidelines and best practice documents for promotion and marketing during the live production phase
